FitSnack Box June 2018 Review

This box usually contains some ready-to-eat snacks and sometimes a few pantry items:

This box usually comes with an information card containing details about the items on one side and a workout on the other side.

The Art of Broth Vegan Vegetable Flavored (6 bags)

The Art of Broth Vegan Vegetable Flavored (6 bags) – Retail Value $15.99

I have received this in a subscription box before (maybe Vegan Cuts?) and I wasn’t a huge fan at the time. But I received this as I was fighting a nasty case of bronchitis and, well, that made all the difference in the world. I really do think it made my throat feel better and breathing in the steam helped, as well. I am mostly better now but will save what I have left for future instances of illness.

Flavabar Roasted Almond and Himalayan Pink Salt (2 x 1.3 oz) – Buy a 10-pack for $23.95

I am pretty much never going to complain about getting a large chocolate bar and getting two large chocolate bars is even better. The almond really added to the texture nicely here. These bars are supposed to have more cocoa flavanols than other varieties of dark chocolate, hence the inclusion in this particular subscription box.

Thinables Crackers in Jalapeno Cheddar (6 oz) – Retail Value $3.79

This is a product I was already familiar with. In fact, it is something I buy three cases at a time from the manufacturer. Although I don’t think the individual flavors of Thinables are very distinguishable from one another, I do like them. Eating them is *close* to eating Cheez-Its, but with fewer calories and more fiber. I have some for lunch every day, in fact. I do strongly suggest sticking to one serving at a time because eating the whole bag would be too much fiber at once.

Hawaiian Ola Noni Energy (2.5 fl oz) – Retail Value $3

I mentioned earlier I had been sick. Last week I did go back to work a few days and I was super sleepy during the afternoons (I was taking some cough syrup with codeine at night, which probably contributed). So I chugged this one afternoon and I do think it helped fight afternoon fatigue. This has caffeine from yerba mate and green tea as well as some anti-inflammatory compounds.

Purely Inspired Plant-Based Nutrition (vanilla, 1.27 oz x 2) – Buy 1.5 lbs for $19.99

Well, I don’t drink protein shakes because I don’t like the texture (especially when the protein is plant-based, as it doesn’t blend as well). But I do like to put protein powder in my morning smoothies and this works very well in that context. Vanilla is a pretty neutral flavor that doesn’t conflict with my other ingredients and I like the little nutritional boost I am getting since my breakfasts are kind of low-protein, in general.

Rise Buddy Sea Salt Rice Crisps (1.4 oz) – Buy 12 Packs for $18

These are making the rounds this month, I guess, as I also received them in the Vegan Cuts Snack Box.  I think this flavor is pretty plain, as the flavors of these things go, but they would work well with a savory dip like hummus.  These are baked and they are whole grain as well as being gluten-free.

Superseedz Sea Salt (5 oz) – Retail Value $4.79

These are lightly-salted pumpkin seeds. This is another rather plain snack but these are kind of addictive. Of course, they have all the wonderful nutrition associated with seeds (fiber, healthful fats, and minerals), and they seemed quite fresh.

Verdict: The June FitSnack Box had 7 items, which makes the average cost per item about $3.70 (figuring a $25.90 cost for the box + shipping). You will notice from the list of prices above that quite a few of the items had values higher than that, so I feel like it averages out and you are generally getting a good deal. This box tends to have a few larger or full-sized snacks in addition to a few sample sizes (like the whole box of broth packs instead of just one), so you are getting more of each individual snack than you would with other subscriptions. The tradeoff is, you aren’t getting as many different things to try. At any rate, I have definitely learned about some new snacks from this subscription that I have later purchased in full-size, and I generally feel like some effort has gone into the curation and in looking for snacks that meet certain criteria instead of just taking anything that is offered.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Boxes ship out around the 20th of the month so you will receive the July box.
